Jean-Pierre Heim,Architect Van Cleef & Arpels, Revillon, Baccarat, Christian Lacroix, Lanvin, and Club Med are names that evoke images of glamour, quality, and exclusivity. While each of these prestigious organizations takes care to develop its own, uniquely appropriate retail store, hotel or other milieu to serve its clientele, they share one gifted architect among themselves and with many of their peers: Jean-Pierre Heim. Now, for the first time, a beautifully produced monograph has assembled 34 superb examples of work by this visionary architect and designer, drawing from portfolios in his offices in New York, Paris and Athens. The collection is entitled simply Jean-Pierre Heim,Architect. In the pages that follow, brilliant, specially commissioned four-color photographs, accompanied by explanatory notes, depict some of the finest examples of Jean-Pierre Heim’s hotels, restaurants, retail stores, show-rooms, public buildings, office interiors, private residences, furniture design and tromp I’oeil from around the world. There is Thalassa, for example, a romantic restaurant serving fine Greek cuisine in Soho, New York while giving patrons the impression that they are crusing through the Greek Islands on a luxury sailing ship.A newly rejuvenated Club Med in Dakar, Senegal offers its guests an exotic African expe-rience featuring authentic furnishings made by local craftsmen and every creature comfort a guest could want. Modern convenience and traditional technique come together in a handsome, sun-drenched and wonderfully accommodating private residence on Mykonos overlooking Greece’s Cycladic Islands. And that’s just a sampling of Jean-Pierre Heim’s memorable work for such discriminating clients as the Luxor Palace theater in Dresden, a retail store for Lance1 i n A i x e n Provence, t h e C h u r c h o f t h e Assumption in Paris, and many more. Architects, interior designers and lovers of fine design will find much to inspire and inform them in this book. Jean-Pierre Heim,Architect is a resource that can be studied and enjoyed as often as it is read.
